Parade performer audition

So I've tried starting this blog post about 4 times now and every time I title it I end up quitting. I don't wanna be a negative Nancy about anything and I certainly don't want to discourage any of you so I wanna make this as positive as possible.
What I wore:
I wore a dress again, this time a light pink lace one. I wasn't going to, I was actually going to wear black leggings and a neon green loose t shirt, but my mom and I concluded to wear a dress to stand out. I wore nude tights and some small shorts underneath. I wore my character shoes again this time because I thought I needed to look taller in this audition.
Here's a selfie of my outfit the night before I left for California. I did not wear the glasses I have on here they were for a disney bound outfit :)
What I would change about my outfit:
I would't wear a dress again. At least not for this audition. Honestly I learned from this one that it simply does not matter what you wear. You will stand out by the way you perform. I also wouldn't wear character shoes to thisparticular audition because it was a much harder dance than I thought. I'll explain more on that later, but it was just easier to move in jazz shoes I noticed. It was more dancing than posing so the turns and stuff were harder in character shoes. If you can, don't wear tennis shoes, I imagine it's even harder to turn in those.
My audition was Sunday July 14th 2014 and it was set to start at 10 am. It was at the Disneyland casting center right behind Disneyland just off Ball road. I had been there for my interview last August but we went in a separate building. So I arrived at about 7:45 just because last time I knew we went in early. There was already quite a bit of a line! I met a couple of nice girls and we were in the second group of 75. They took us backstage and we had to wait in line outside of the building for a while. There were some bobsleds and doom buggies back there too so that was fun seeing them :). We weren't allowed to take pictures for obvious reasons. They then took us to a shady place outside a building and began to teach us the dance.
I watched a million and a half videos about these types of auditions and they said you didn't need a dance background. Well I have a substantial amount of dancing and I feel I'm decently coordinated. I was very wrong. When the dance was all put together it really wasn't that complicated but I think the stress of the audition and the quick time period in which you are required to learn it really took a toll on me. I was sweating SO bad. And I don't usually sweat like that! I noticed all these girls picking up on it so fast and I simply wasn't understanding. I'll go through the dance with you with some dance lingo, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

-step forward with your right foot and walk 4 steps
-ball change and stick your left foot out with a flexed heel tap
-pivot forward and pivot backward, when you're turning to the front again do a hitch kick with your right leg
-one grapevine to the right
-a box step to the left
-two shanae turns and jump out of it on the second one
-1 grapevine to the right
-'the wizard' which apparently us from the Wizard of Oz but I had no idea how to do it
-double pirouette
And that's it! But for someone who hasn't danced in a couple years it's hard to pick it back up in a matter of a few minutes.
After they taught it to us outside we went into a dance studio backstage and practiced. But even the practice they gave us wasn't quite enough for me. I don't know if it was really as difficult as it seemed to me or if my head just wasn't there with me but I couldn't memorize it for the life of me. Talk about frustrating. I would try to take a moment and focus but nothing was really helping. After that we went to another studio next door and were put in front of casting directors. I had read online you auditioned in groups of about 4 or 5 but we went two diagonal across the floor towards the casting directors. That also made it much more nerve wracking. So the girl that went with me didn't exactly help the situation. She was messing up, then looking at me and giggling and all that ya know. But I will in no way blame it on her. I messed up the whole thing. I looked like hadn't danced a day in my life. Sucky huh. Oh well what do ya do. So as you were crossing the floor doing the dance towards them they would kindly direct you towards the piano or towards the door. You immediately could tell who had made it and who hadn't. In the end they chose about 10 girls to go onto the next round. As you can guess I was cut the first round. I was hoping to at least get past that round and I thought it would be pretty simple to do that but I was wrong! The point is: every audition is different. And it's hard to be fully prepared for what you're going to, but I hope you guys get some comfort in knowing you're not the only one who gets discouraged from time to time. I won't lie to any of you, I cried when I got back to my car, but not because I didn't get a part, because I was disappointed in myself for not doing my best. I was so mad at myself for not being able to sink my brain into it and get it memorized but maybe it wasn't my time, it wasn't meant to be. On a positive note, I've spent three days at Disneyland and it's been awesome :) and I'll post about my fun Disneybound outfits too!
